TCHS Alumni News 2006 System Transition
We are advising all registered alumni of some important changes at TCHS Alumni News (http://tchsalumni.org). These changes are part of a gradual transition to a new registration and service platform that we hope to complete by the end of 2006 that will
1) make the site easier to use
2) create the underpinnings of some new member services

Readers are as always encouraged to update their contact data regularly to assure access to all features of the site. As before, paid subscribers have additional privileges.

Registration

All new alumni users should register from the Roster. Just click the Roster link at the top of any page. Near the top of each roster page is a control bar that contains Sign In and Join links. To register, click the Join link and complete the simple form. Information you provide is confidential; we display only your name and your class association. You can optionally display more, such as a link to your web site or a comment. You can sign in and change your contact data or comment at any time.

Signing In

Registration and sign-in are now located on the navigation bar of the Roster. Click Sign In and provide your user name and password. A Lost Password link lets you retrieve your password by email to your registered address. If you have never created a password the system will create one for you before sending the login data. If you no longer have access to your registered mailbox, write for help via the To The Editor form on the site.

Features for Registered Users Only

Once you have signed in, the links will change on the Roster navigation bar, and you will be able to see and edit your personal contact data. Perhaps now would be a good time to verify your contact data.

You will also find that when you go to the News Views section a comment form will be displayed below each article. Only registered users can comment; paid subscribers can also post news articles subject to approval by the editor.

Signing Out

When you are finished reading TCHS Alumni News, we recommend that you sign out, especially if you share your computer with other persons. It's a good idea to close the browser window, too, if you are concerned about security; this is a good practice for any web site.

Additional Features for Paid Subscribers

Subscribers will find additional links on their pages:

1. The profile editing form contains space in which you can create additional content on your personal page. You can also add a photo. If you know how, you can include HTML to link additional resources to your personal page.

2. The News Views control panel contains a link to add a new item. Subscribers may now contribute directly to the news. User submitted articles will be submitted to the editor immediately for review; this is an experimental feature as of September 2006.

Coming soon for subscribers: Personal newsletter, gallery and direct messaging. Watch the site for more information. Subscribers may also change their user names. Subscribers are eligible to vote in elections and to serve as officers and directors. A bargain at $12 per year.

As you know, our site receives no subsidy from TCHS and relies entirely on the occasional advertiser and on your subscriptions. Should we ever experience a surplus (hope springs eternal...), proceeds will go to alumni activities and/or scholarships.

Lost Alumni

Registered alumni who have not updated their contacts appear among the missing on the Update Contacts page, and their listings do not have an email link. If you find one of your friends in that condition, please inform them and ask that they update their contact data. They will need to write to the editor to get new access codes. We update the list whenever an undeliverable message is returned.

(If you are a subscriber to any of the several commercial alumni sites, you can help us by writing to classmates registered there and inviting them to register with us as well. Commercial, generic alumni sites are advertising media, not service centers, and they will never have the school-specific mix of services we plan to offer.)

We hope these changes increase the utility of the site and your enjoyment. Thank you for your interest and participation.

Sincerely,
Rees Clark '60, Editor
